A presentation by
the Fauquier County Public Schools and a discussion on a request
to obtain a Comprehensive Plan Amendment to include the proposed
school site in the New Baltimore Service District and to allow
for extension of central utilities to serve the proposed school.
A Site Selection Committee consisting of representatives of
Fauquier County’s Board of Supervisors, School Board, Planning
Commission, School Administration, Engineering Office, and
Realtors considered four sites in the New Baltimore area for the
proposed third high school. The Committee developed criteria
which included location, development issues, site suitability
and transportation to evaluate the four sites. Based on their
evaluation, site evaluations prepared by Moseley Architects and
Timmons Group, and a Traffic Impact Study prepared by KELLERCO,
Inc., the Site Selection Committee recommended that the Fauquier
County School Board accept Edward L. Miller’s donation of 75
acres known as the Wesfield Property located on Route 605. The
Fauquier County School Board voted in favor of the Wesfield
Property in November 2004. The Fauquier County School Board
requested that the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors approve
the Comprehensive Plan Amendment to include the proposed school
site and the necessary Special Exceptions to provide central
utilities to serve the proposed school. The Fauquier County
Board of Supervisors considered the Fauquier County School
Board’s request following a Public Hearing May 12, 2005, and
voted to table their decision until the completion of a Joint
Work Session requested by Fauquier County Board of Supervisor’s
Chairman and Fauquier County School Board Chairman.
