Community Development

The Department of Community Development is charged with promoting the public health safety and general welfare by administering, and enforcing plans, policies and ordinances related to land development and building, including the Comprehensive Plan, Subdivision Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance, Design Standards Manual, and Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.

The Department is also charged with leading community planning efforts aimed at defining the vision for land use and development throughout the County, and developing plans, policies and ordinances aimed at achieving that vision.

The Department staff strives to provide fair and quality service related to land use issues to all Fauquier County citizens and businesses, as well as the Departments, Committees, Boards, Commissions and Organizations we work with on land use and building issues. We always welcome your feedback on how we can improve our service to you.
