Northern Fauquier County

CAPTURED- Arrested Wednesday afternoon (02/27/13) in Fredericksburg VA

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the murders of Nelson Slack, 80 and his wife, Ethel, 74, who lived in the 7200 block of Bunker Hill Road in The Plains area of northern Fauquier County.

Deputies received a call at 11am for a welfare check on Sunday morning, February 24. It was reported the Slack’s had not attended regular church service and had not been heard from for approximately 24 hours.

During initial response the Slack residence was found to be locked and their car was not in the driveway. There was information at the time that the Slacks may have left early for a pre-planned trip. A lookout was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies to check on their welfare.

At approximately 1:15pm deputies returned to the Slack residence with family members who had a key to the house. The key did not work and the decision was made to force entry into the house as the Slack’s disappearance was unusual.

After gaining entry through a window, Nelson Slack and his wife, Ethel, were found deceased inside the residence. There appeared to be trauma to the upper body of both victims. Detectives and crime scene technicians from the sheriff’s office and the Virginia State Police worked throughout the night to process the crime scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Prince William County.
