The Boys & Girls Club of
Fauquier, Inc., has requested the County to submit a CDBG
application on its behalf, requesting funding in the amount
of $500,000 to renovate a building being purchased by the
Boys & Girls Club (Club) to provide after-school activities.
In calendar year 2007, the Club provided services to a
total of 856 youth. Of these children, there were 612
active Club members, 55.6% of whom are members of low- and
moderate-income families.
Purchase and renovation of
this facility will allow for the expansion of Club
activities, not just in numbers of children served, but also
by extending hours and days of operation. Currently, the
Club has fifty (50) children on its waiting list, and
activity hours are restricted by School building schedules.
The Club has an on-going
capital campaign to raise funds to purchase the building.
To date, they have raised $557,600 toward the purchase price
of $2.25 million. If they are unable to raise adequate
funds to cash-purchase the facility, they have been assured
of a loan by a local lending institution.
The Club collaborates with
the County Schools, Parks and Recreation, CADRE and local
civic groups to provide
after school programs that foster academic success,
character/citizenship, and healthy lifestyles in local
children.
CDBG regulations require two
public hearings to be held; this
is the second public hearing.
The purpose of this public
hearing is to receive comments specific to the proposed Boys
& Girls Club project
in relation to Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
funding for a project in our community.
