Topic Description:
Fauquier County Community
Development and Economic Development will be submitting an
application to the National Park Service for
Preserve America
status for Fauquier County at the end of June, 2008.
Preserve
America
is a White House initiative that encourages and supports
community efforts to preserve and enjoy the nation’s
priceless cultural and natural heritage. The goals of the
initiative include a greater shared knowledge about the
nation’s past, strengthened regional identities and local
pride, increased local participation in preserving the
country’s cultural and natural heritage assets, and support
for the economic vitality of our communities
This
Preserve
America
status would allow the County to apply for special heritage
tourism and preservation grant funds.
As part of the application
process, the National Park Service has asked local
governments to pass a Resolution demonstrating support for
Preserve America
principles. This Resolution does not bind the County to any
specific regulation or funding. |
