A Resolution Authorizing an Application for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program Funding from the U.S. Department of Justice 

Topic Description:

Additional grant funding is available to Fauquier County through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Fauquier County  has been allocated $13,878 in grant funds which will be used to purchase one Mobile Data Terminal (MDT).  In addition to the MDT, software for three desktop terminals will be purchased to facilitate reporting by deputies who do not have access to MDT’s.  It is a grant requirement that the local government applying for the award make the grant application available to the governing body and the public for review.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

This JAG program allocates $13,878 by formula to Fauquier County; no match is required.  The actual costs of the MDT and software are $15,651.  The difference of $1,773 will be absorbed within the Sheriff’s Office budget.  The useful life of these units is five (5) years; funding for replacement units would be subject to future appropriations.
