Fatal Fire in Upperville

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a house fire on Dunvegan Drive in the village of Upperville in Northern Fauquier County on Monday morning, July 9, 2012. A witness driving by on Rt 50 noticed smoke coming from a residence and called 911. During firefighting operations the body of a female was found in the residence. Detectives responded to the scene and immediately conducted an investigation into the incident.

The victim was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas, VA where an autopsy was performed Tuesday morning. The victim has been identified as Sarah Libbey Greenhalgh, 48, of Dunvegan Drive, Upperville, VA.

The cause and manner of death are pending final autopsy results. Greenhalgh’s death is being investigated as a homicide at this time. Greenhalgh lived alone in a house she rented on a farm on Dunvegan Drive.
