On July 5 during a Parks and Recreation Board Volunteer/Donor Recognition Ceremony, Ron Scullin was acknowledged for his valuable contribution of more than 22 years for carefully and diligently managing the renovation, installation and operations of the Warrenton Caboose.
Mr. Scullin accepted a Parks and Recreation Board proclamation for his years of volunteerism and a sculpture symbolic of his association with the Piedmont Railroaders. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Scullin was instrumental in renovating the vintage Norfolk & Western Railway Caboose #518554 and moving it to the Warrenton Branch Greenway. He oversaw a 3-year project which restored and installed all hand-laid track work. Mr. Scullin supervised the installation and electrification of the Norfolk & Western position light signal, provided countless hours of railroad history research, recreated a switchman’s shanty containing a wealth of railroad artifacts, restored and installed vintage railroad signs along the Greenway, and coordinated an interpretive display for the old turntable.
Thanks for your leadership and for giving so many citizens of Fauquier a greater appreciation, experience and history of Caboose #518554!
