Founded in 1970, Lord Fairfax Community College is a comprehensive, nonresidential, two-year public institution of higher education with three locations - the Fauquier and Middletown Campuses and the Luray-Page County Center - and outreach sites throughout the College's service region, which includes the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren and the city of Winchester.

LFCC offers more than 75 degree and certificate programs in a wide variety of disciplines that prepare individuals for immediate entry into the workforce or transfer to a four-year college or university. LFCC has a number of articulation agreements with area institutions that ensure admission to the college or university and/or the transfer of credits. With day, evening, weekend and Internet courses, LFCC's flexible scheduling options fit into the busy lives of students.

LFCC serves more than 7,600 unduplicated credit students and more than 9,000 professional development students annually. In terms of student enrollment, LFCC is the eighth largest of the 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System. LFCC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Office of Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education at LFCC offers open enrollment training, customized training and credit certificates to meet the needs of individuals and businesses in the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia regions. The Office of Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education offers a wide variety of professional development programs that reflect current workforce trends and in-demand skills. Courses are available online, onsite and at all three LFCC locations.

Tuition at LFCC for Virginia residents is $76.65 per credit hour, not including applicable fees. The College's tuition is approximately one-third the tuition of a four-year college or university in Virginia.

More than 400 employees (administrators, faculty and staff) serve the needs of students. Leading these individuals is John J. "Ski" Sygielski, the third president of LFCC, who joined the College in August 2003. Ski holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy, master's degrees in education and business administration and a doctorate in education.
