Geography
Fauquier County is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. and is part of the Washington D.C. Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fauquier is bordered by Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties to the west, Stafford County to the south, Loudoun, Warren and Clarke Counties to the north, and Prince William County to the east. Fauquier County can be easily accessed by four major highways, including State Routes 28, 29, 55 and 211, as well as Interstate 66.
Fauquier is comprised of approximately 651 square miles (416,678 acres). The County is home to 21 villages and three incorporated towns: The Town of Warrenton, The Town of Remington, and the Town of The Plains. The Town of Warrenton is centrally located and serves as the county seat. The Town of Remington is located in the southern end of the county, while the Town of The Plains is located in the north.

Fauquier County was the 29th fastest growing locality amongst Virginia counties and cities, with an over 18% rise in population between the year 2000 and 2010. The neighboring counties of Loudoun County and Prince William County were the fastest growing localities throughout Virginia over this time period. The regional population trends are as follows:

Fauquier County's Population
The 2010 U.S. Census listed the total population for Fauquier County as 65,203 persons, which represents an 18.3% increase over 2000 U.S. Census figures. The more than 10,000 new residents of Fauquier County over the last decade have moved into both rural and service district areas. According to the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, the County's population as of July 1, 2012 was estimated to be 66,131 persons, an increase of 1.4% from the 2010 U.S. Census. Future projections, as seen below, indicate a continued trend of population increases
