Biographical Sketch

Mary Leigh McDaniel, CPA/PFS

Mary Leigh McDaniel was elected to serve on the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors representing the Marshall Magisterial District for a four-year term beginning January 1, 2016.  Ms. McDaniel was elected to serve as Vice Chair to the Board of Supervisors in 2018.  She serves on the Fauquier County Broadband Authority, Facilities Planning and Implementation Committee, Finance Committee, Personnel Committee and Route 50 Traffic Calming Task Force.

Ms. McDaniel graduated from Warren County High School in 1971. She continued her education at James Madison University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance.   In 1978 she earned the designation of Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) from the American Institute of CPAs.  Ms. McDaniel has more than thirty years’ experience as a certified public accountant (CPA) formerly with two local firms Scheulen & Patchett, as well as Drunagel Johnson Rutherford & Wilkins, and is currently is currently managing partner of the accounting firm of Updegrove, Combs & McDaniel, PLC.

Ms. McDaniel has served as an officer and board member of various civic and non-profit organizations.  Ms. McDaniel currently serves on the PATH Foundation board, is a member of the board of directors of Middleburg Financial Corporation and Access Bank, and sits on the board of The Land Trust of Virginia.  Ms. McDaniel was appointed by Governor Kaine to the Vint Hill Economic Development Authority, named “Business Person of the Year” in 2009 by the Chamber of Commerce and has been selected as a “Super CPA” by Virginia Business Magazine.
