Topic:

A Resolution Delegating to the Transportation Committee the Authority to Request that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Install Warning Signs

Topic Description:

In order for Fauquier County to request that VDOT install roadway warning signs, the local governing body must forward to VDOT a resolution supporting the request.  These warning signs include “Watch for Children,” animal crossings, and agricultural warning signs.  On February 2, 2006, the Board of Supervisors delegated to the Transportation Committee the authority to request the installation of and maintenance by VDOT of these warning signs.  Since that time, the Transportation Committee has processed approximately seven requests each year for these types of signs.  This delegation of authority to the Transportation Committee expired on January 1, 2009.  The attached resolution would extend that authority until January 1, 2013.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors:

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.
