Topic: 

A Work Session to Receive Information from Virginia Railway Express / Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (VRE/PRTC) Regarding Options Available for Expanding Public Transportation Services to Fauquier County and to Consider Possible Use of a Regional Commission Rail Planning Grant

Topic Description:

The Board of Supervisors requested a work session to review options available for expanding public transportation services to Fauquier County.

Representatives of VRE and PRTC will be present at the meeting:

·        Wally Covington, Prince William County Supervisor, PRTC

·        Robert Gibbons, Stafford County Supervisor, PRTC

·        Al Harf, Executive Director, PRTC

·        Dale Zehner, CEO, VRE

The Regional Commission has been awarded a grant of $25,000 to undertake a regional study along the rail corridor.  A memo from Mark Van de Water is attached and provides additional information.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Conduct a work session.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

The financial impacts analysis cannot be completed until additional information is received and an option for transit services is selected.
