Topic:

A Work Session to Review the Disability Services Board Work Plan and Membership 

Topic Description:

During 2009 there were a number of changes made that impacted the County Disability Services Board (DSB).  The County eliminated the part-time position that had previously supported the Board and in June 2009 the Commonwealth of Virginia terminated administrative financial support for Disability Service Boards throughout the State.  In addition, the State requirement that localities establish and maintain DSB’s was terminated.

The Department of General Services has been assigned the responsibility of working with and supporting the work of the DSB.  In addition, County Administration and other staff have worked closely with the DSB to re-examine the structure and work of the Board.  Attached is information that has been discussed by the DSB at four meetings since May of 2009.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 
 

Conduct a work session to review the proposed statement of mission/purpose, work plan and membership.
