Topic: A Resolution to Approve Acceptance of the Remaining 0.11-mile of Heddings Road (Route 794) to the Secondary System of State Highways
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) accepted Heddings Road (Route 794) for maintenance in 1947. This acceptance was for 1.0 mile of Heddings Road from its intersection with State Route 611 (Sowego Road). Heddings Road is actually 1.11-miles in length with, the 0.11-mile portion not included in the Secondary System of State Highways. However, VDOT has been physically maintaining the entire 1.11 miles of roadway since 1947. See VDOT letter located in Attachment 1.
During review of a preliminary plat for a proposed subdivision on Heddings Road, VDOT identified this discrepancy between the 1.0 mile of accepted roadway for maintenance, and the 1.11-miles actually being maintained. Since it has been continuously maintaining the roadway for a period of twenty (20) years, the county is asking VDOT to accept the remaining 0.11-mile section into the Secondary System of State Highways pursuant to Section 33.1-184 of the Code of Virginia.
