Transportation Committee the Authority to Request that the
Virginia Department of Transportation Install Warning Signs

Description: |

The Transportation Committee receives numerous requests for
the installation of signs to alert motorists of activities
or hazards in a particular area, including “Watch for
Children”, animal crossings, and agricultural warning
signs. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)
requires that the Board of Supervisors or its designee
forward a resolution approving each warning sign request, so
VDOT may accommodate these requests.

Recommendation: |
|
On November 30, 2005, the County’s Transportation Committee
recommended that the Board of Supervisors delegate the
authority to the Transportation Committee to recommend that
VDOT install warning signs as the Committee deems
appropriate.

Financial Impact Analysis: |

VDOT will
fund the sign installations.
