The Parks and Recreation
Department submitted a grant application for funding for the
first phase of a trail connector from Warrenton Branch
Greenway to Lord
Fairfax Community College. Phase 1 included acquisition of
property and planning for the trail. The County was one of
80 applicants awarded funding and at the October 15, 2001
meeting the County accepted the Commonwealth Transportation
Board Transportation Enhancement Program grant award of
$102,000 for land acquisition
In May 2006 the Commonwealth
Transportation Board allocated an additional $104,000
bringing the total award to $206,000. A Project
Administrative Agreement Amendment has been issued by the
Department of Transportation to reflect the total award.
During initial planning it was found that the land
acquisition included in the original grant submission was
not feasible. VDOT subsequently allowed the County to focus
all funding on design and construction for that portion of
the trail on Lord Fairfax Community College property.
As per County policy all
grants must be formally accepted by the Board of
Supervisors.
The Warrenton Branch
Greenway Extension – Agreement Amendment is attached.
A Budget Action Form for
appropriating the grant funds is also attached for approval. |
