PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO RECOGNIZE MARCH 2 THROUGH MARCH 8, 2009 AS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (“MS”) AWARENESS WEEK IN FAUQUIER COUNTY

            WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system that affects approximately 10,000 people in Virginia and 400,000 nationwide; and

            WHEREAS, MS is a disease that not only affects the person with the disease, but also greatly affects family and friends; and

            WHEREAS, the symptoms of MS vary but include abnormal fatigue, numbness in arms and legs, blindness and even paralysis; and

            WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter supports the mission to end the devastating effects of MS; and

            WHEREAS, since it began, the National MS Society has committed over $500 million to support MS research related programs; and

            WHEREAS, the National MS Society, National Capital Chapter provides education and supports programs that improve the quality of life for people with MS in Fauquier County; and

            WHEREAS, the National MS Society, National Capital Chapter seeks contributions for research and local programs; and

            WHEREAS, thousands of volunteers, corporations and health professionals are working diligently to end the devastating effects of MS; and

            WHEREAS, research continues to bring us closer to a cure while contributing to the development of improved treatment options that enhance the quality of life for people with MS; and

            WHEREAS, in the quest to end the devastating effects of MS, the National MS Society, National Capital Chapter is an organization that people with MS can count on; now, therefore, be it

            PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 12th day of February 2009 That the Board hereby recognizes and commends all those who are committed to finding a cure for MS and especially those individuals who have been diagnosed with MS.
