A Work Session to Review Current Fire Rescue Service Delivery Abilities and Establish Countywide Uniformed Service Delivery Expectations

Topic Description:

In 1997 the Board of Supervisors contracted David M. Griffith and Associates to conduct a study regarding the abilities of the County’s fire rescue services and to make recommendations to the Board regarding any changes that may be instituted to better service the citizens and visitors of Fauquier County in their time of need. One of the results of this study was the Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services ten year operational plan of 2003. This plan included the fire rescue service delivery benchmark of successfully delivering a minimum of a medical unit (Rescue or Ambulance) and two medically trained personnel to emergency medical incidents within ten minutes 80% of the time and a minimum of a fire apparatus and four firefighters at the scene of  fire and hazardous incidents within ten minutes 80% of the time.

The purpose of the work session will be to:

1)      Review current State and Federal mandates that impact these service delivery benchmarks.

2)      Review industry standards that may impact these service delivery benchmarks.

3)      Identify if we are meeting the benchmarks.


Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

1)      Ascertain if the service delivery benchmark accomplishments are acceptable for Fauquier County.

2)      Ascertain if the service delivery benchmark levels are acceptable for Fauquier County.

3)      Direct any  revisions or expectations to the service delivery benchmarks.

4)      Initiate an action  plan to ensure that the current and/or any updated service delivery benchmarks are successfully met.


Financial Impacts Analysis:

An analysis of the financial impacts would be dependent on the acceptability of the current service delivery and any expenses that might be incurred as a result of making changes.
