Topic:

A RESOLUTION TO DESIGNATE GRANT APPLICANT'S AGENT

Topic Description:

The Department of Justice has informed Fauquier County, through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, of its intention to award grants to assist in preparation for Fauquier's response to weapons of mass destruction incidents.  The amounts of the grant awards are as follows:

            1999 Grant                                    $  3,777.72

2000 Grant                                    $  8,486.29

2001 Grant                                    $  8,642.07

2002 Grant                                    $30,568.88

Total Award                                  $51,474.96

No local match is required.

These grants are intended to allow local governments to purchase response equipment that has been identified as being needed in our locality.  On December 5, 2002, the Public Safety Committee endorsed this grant, and recommended these funds be used as follows:  Approximately 50% of the funds will be used for the multi-gas detection meters for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, as well as the volunteer fire and rescue companies.  The remainder of the funds will be used to provide two Sheriff's Office Investigators with personal protective equipment to deal with suspicious packages, such as anthrax threats, and  interoperability communications equipment.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management requires that a grant applicant's agent be named prior to award of these grants.
