The
Department of Justice has informed Fauquier County, through the
Virginia Department of Emergency Management, of its intention to
award grants to assist in preparation for Fauquier's response to
weapons of mass destruction incidents.
The amounts of the grant awards are as follows:

These
grants are intended to allow local governments to purchase
response equipment that has been identified as being needed in our
locality. On December
5, 2002, the Public Safety Committee endorsed this grant, and
recommended these funds be used as follows:
Approximately 50% of the funds will be used for the
multi-gas detection meters for the Department of Fire and
Emergency Services, as well as the volunteer fire and rescue
companies. The
remainder of the funds will be used to provide two Sheriff's
Office Investigators with personal protective equipment to deal
with suspicious packages, such as anthrax threats, and
interoperability communications equipment.
The
Virginia Department of Emergency Management requires that a grant
applicant's agent be named prior to award of these grants.
