A Resolution to Provide Howard Shockey & Sons Inc. Notice to Proceed with the Construction of a 204-Bed Community Corrections Center

Topic Description:

Due to overcrowding and diminished capacity, the Clarke-Fauquier-Frederick-Winchester Regional Adult Detention Center (herein referred to as “the Regional Jail”) is seeking to develop, design, and construct a work release facility.  In March 2004, the Regional Jail submitted a Community-Based Corrections Plan to the Virginia Department of Corrections to request reimbursement of up to one-half of the pro rata share of capital costs to each participating locality. This request for funding was approved.  This resolution seeks to provide formal notice to Shockey & Sons, Inc. to commence construction, provided that the contractor’s final price does not exceed the 35% design estimate of $8,752,554.  Should the final price exceed that amount, the Regional Jail will delay the project and seek approval from participating localities.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.
