RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATIONíS PROPOSED CHANGES TO ITíS MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS SERVICE STANDARDS WHICH WOULD NEGATIVELY AFFECT THE LEVEL OF SERVICES TO FAUQUIER COUNTY AND ITS CITIZENS 

            WHEREAS, The Virginia Department of Transportation current Maintenance and Operations Service Standards sets forth a level of expected service to those roads contained in the State Primary and Secondary System of Highways; and  

            WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation has proposed a number of changes to those standards; and  

            WHEREAS,  a number of the proposed changes would negatively affect the level of maintenance and operation of a number of the streets and roads located in Fauquier County which are currently in the state secondary system of highways; and  

            WHEREAS, the proposed changes will increase the potential danger to the citizens of Fauquier County during their operation of motor vehicles on those roads which will see a downgrade of maintenance and operational service under the proposed changes; and  

            WHEREAS,  the proposed changes result in an abdication by the Commonwealth of Virginia and its Department of Transportation of its duty and responsibilities to maintain a safe and convenient system of highways for all the citizens of the Commonwealth not just those citizens located in its most populated areas; now, therefore, be it 

            RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Fauquier County this 12th day of March, 2009 That it does hereby state its opposition to those proposed changes to the Virginia Department of Transportationís current maintenance and operations service standards which would negatively affect the level of service to the citizens of Fauquier County
