A Resolution Authorizing the
Establishment and Continued Operation of a Computer
Clubhouse at Marshall Community Center |
|
Topic Description: |
|
Together with its corporate
sponsors, local government and business partners, the Equal
Footing Foundation helps fund, launch and sustain Computer
Clubhouses that currently serve over 1,500 youth in six
locations in Fairfax County. The Foundation provides youth
development and educational programming in the clubhouses.
The Fauquier County Parks
and Recreation Department has received $100,000 in donations
from the Equal Footing Foundation to initiate a Computer
Clubhouse at the Marshall Community Center (MCC). The Equal
Footing Foundation is offering to commit to contribute
additional funding. The intent is for Equal Footing to fund
the full financial cost of a Computer Clubhouse for the
first three years. This includes:
-
Renovation of the
basement meeting room at MCC
-
Purchase of all
hardware, software, furniture, and music studio
equipment
-
Network membership
-
Salary and benefits for
one Recreation Program Coordinator (grade 26)
-
Miscellaneous on-going
program costs, including education/recreation supplies,
postage, printing, advertising, membership dues,
uniforms, and mandatory training and travel.

Requested Action of the
Board of Supervisors:
|
|
Consider adoption of the
attached resolution. |
|
Financial Impacts Analysis:
The Equal Footing Foundation
respectfully requests a commitment that Fauquier County fund
the salary/benefits and miscellaneous operating costs
beginning in FY12. In FY09, these costs are estimated to be
$54,000. Based on a 3% annual increase in operating costs,
the estimated cost the County would incur in FY12 would be
$60,000.
