Topic:  A Resolution to Establish a Fauquier County Tourism Advisory Council, a Fauquier County Tourism Program and a Revised Historic Resources Committee.

In 2001 the Board of Supervisors received recommendations of the Tourism Task Force.  Those recommendations were:

1.      Create a central point for planning and tourism coordination for Fauquier County;

2.      Create a Fauquier County Toursim Advisory Council and a Fauquier County Department of Tourism;

3.      Recommend an approach to establish a tourism assessment for Fauquier County.

In January 2002, the Board also received a Proposal to Restructure Economic Development / Creation of Tourism Program that recommends:

1.      To develop a tourism assessment for Fauquier;

2.      To coordinate events and tourism planning;

3.      To set priorities for tourism development, to include an emphasis on development of heritage tourism in Fauquier. 

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adopting the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

There is no financial impact to the requested action.

However, should the Board support the creation of a Tourism Advisory Council and a County Tourism Program administered in the Economic Development Department, a part-time staff person will be requested as part of the FY-2003 Budget at an estimated cost of $30,000.
