Topic: 

A Resolution to Award a Bid for a Microwave Communication System:  View Tree – Vint Hill

Topic Description:

As a part of the project to improve public safety radio communications in the Vint Hill area, proposals were requested to provide the microwave connection of the new Vint Hill site to equipment and facilities located at the central View Tree site.  In addition, alternatives were requested to allow the microwave connection to serve as a data link for the County’s information technology needs, thereby providing a cost-effective option of serving remote County facilities.  Option A, $64,595, provides the backbone of this connectivity that would potentially serve other County facilities in the Vint Hill area.

Three proposals were received and evaluated by a committee comprised of the County’s consulting engineer for the public safety radio system, the County’s radio manager, the IT department and County Administration.  It is recommended that the bid be awarded to Alcatel in the amount of $240,414 for the Base bid and Option A.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

Funding for the base bid and Option A is available within the capital project allocation of providing upgrade to the public safety radio system.
