A Resolution to Approve Training and Travel Expenses for an Employee of the GIS Department

Topic Description:

A staff member of the GIS Department was enrolled in classes pertaining to Professional GIS Certification prior to the FY07 freeze on training and travel expenses imposed by County Administration earlier this calendar year.  This class is one of eight (8) classes required to receive Professional Certification from George Mason University.  The cost of this class including local travel expenses totaled $1,113.49 which is just over the threshold of $1,000 set by the Countyís Policy on Training and Career Development, requiring the Board of Supervisors to authorize the additional $113.49.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors:

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

The GIS Departmentís FY07 budget can absorb both the cost of enrollment in the class and local travel expenses, therefore, no additional funding is being requested as part of this resolution.
