PROCLAMATION A PROCLAMATION TO RECOGNIZE SERGEANT PAUL F. “TREY” MERCER III FOR HIS DEVOTION TO DUTY AND SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY WHEREAS, Trey Mercer graduated from Fauquier High School in 2001 and from Virginia Military Institute in 2005; and WHEREAS, after completing his military training, Sergeant Mercer was stationed by the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas; and WHEREAS, in October 2006, Sergeant Mercer was deployed to Iraq with the First Cavalry Division 2-5; and WHEREAS, on January 25, 2007, the vehicle in which Sergeant Mercer was being transported was the target of an explosive device; and WHEREAS, as a result, he was peppered with shrapnel and sustained a compound fracture of his right arm and various other injuries; and WHEREAS, he underwent surgery in Baghdad and was transferred to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, and WHEREAS, he is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Walter Reed Medical Center; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Fauquier County would like to recognize and thank Sergeant Mercer and his family; now, therefore, be it PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 12th day of April 2007, That Sergeant Paul F. “Trey” Mercer III be, and is hereby, recognized and commended for his selfless gallantry and devotion to duty.
