A Resolution for Local Support of the Utilization of Industrial Access Railroad Track Funds

Topic Description:

Capitol Building Supply, Inc., based in the Vienna/Washington area, is proposing to open a facility in Fauquier County and is interested in the construction of a rail spur on property containing approximately 12 acres,  located on Whiting Road in Marshall, Virginia.  The company, a wholesale construction supplier, will bring drywall products in by rail (Norfolk-Southern Railroad) and transfer them into temporary warehouse storage.  Once completed, the site will receive up to six railcars a week of drywall. This is equal to 24 tractor trailer loads that would otherwise be transported by highway. The contract owners are requesting support from the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors, in the form of a resolution, for application for funding assistance from the Railroad Industrial Access Program in the amount of $375,000, administered by the Virginia Department of Business Assistance and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.  There are no local funds requested; however, each application under this program must be accompanied by a resolution from the local governing body showing support for the project.
