The Electoral Board has been
officially notified by Mount Carmel Baptist Church that it
no longer wishes to serve as the polling location for Lois
Precinct. Under the terms of the signed polling place use
agreement, the church must allow use of it facilities as a
polling place for up to one year from the date of
termination.
The Community Christian
Church, located at 12698 Shipps Store Road in Bealeton, has
been identified as a new polling place location. Church
representatives have been contacted about the possibility of
relocating the polling place to their facility and are very
positive towards this end. Church representatives have
expressed a great willingness to work with County officials
and make this change occur in a smooth and timely fashion.
The church is of new
construction with ample parking and easy access off of Route
17 in either direction. This new location is 1/4 mile
outside the Lois Precinct boundary, but within the maximum
allowable distance of one mile, as provided by § 24.2-310 of
the Code of Virginia. The church does have long term plans
to pave the entire parking lot; however, one handicap
accessible parking space on asphalt will need to be
constructed at County expense. The accessible parking space
will be similar to one constructed at the Marshall Precinct
location.
A signed use agreement will
be required between the Community Christian Church and
Fauquier County not only for use of church facilities for
each election, but for reimbursement of improvement costs
upon early termination of the contract. |
