A Public Hearing for Consideration of a Proposal and Lease
Submitted by Commonwealth Green Energy to Convert Gas to Energy at the
Fauquier County Landfill For some period of time, the
County has been looking for opportunities to develop a pilot project to
convert the landfill gas to energy. Recently,
the County has been approached by Commonwealth
Green Energy with a proposal to install a landfill gas collection
system and equipment to convert the gas to energy.
A proposed lease is under review by staff.
The lease will provide the rights to extract gas and house
facilities to convert the gas to energy.
The general terms and benefits of the agreement, as envisioned by
the contractor, are attached. In
order to formally consider the program and lease, a public hearing is
required. Fiscal
Impact: There is limited financial impact to
conduct the hearing and further consider the proposal.
If ultimately accepted, the County would receive an annual payment
of $10,000 and avoid capital and operating costs associated with a landfill gas collection system. Requested
