Topic:  COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AMENDMENT #CPA02-S-07 AT OLD ALEXANDRIA PIKE AND ROUTE 29, IN THE SCOTT DISTRICT – WHICH WOULD ADD A COLLECTOR ROAD TO THE NEW BALTIMORE SERVICE DISTRICT PLAN.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has proposed a Comprehensive Plan amendment to identify a collector road in the New Baltimore Service District Plan.   

This collector road would be designed to collect traffic generated by an industrial park, and channel traffic movement to the east and west along Route 29, by means of intersections equipped with a light and left turn lanes.  VDOT anticipates that the periodic traffic flow induced by the light should assist the safe passage of nearby subdivisions – such as Snow Hill – onto Route 29.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Hold a public hearing and take action.   

For the Board of Supervisors’ information, the Planning Commission held a public hearing on this request on January 31, 2002.  The Planning Commission then deferred action until the following regularly scheduled meeting of February 28, 2002.  

 At the follow-up meeting, of February 28, 2002, the Planning Commission moved to send this request to the Board of Supervisors with two recommendations: 

a.           To amend the plan as proposed, and

b.          To add the reconfiguring of a one-lane bridge on Old Alexandria Pike to two lanes in the Six-Year Transportation Plan. 

Should the Board of Supervisors choose to approve this Plan Amendment, a resolution is attached.
