3D Modeling and Analysis - Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Topic Description:

In the Fall of 2002, Supervisor Atherton directed staff to investigate whether or not the GIS system can be used to produce three-dimensional modeling and analysis.  The GIS Office has prepared a  presentation to demonstrate the various types of modeling and analyses that could be accomplished using the GIS system.  As part of the work session, staff will demonstrate the following capabilities:  Viewshed Analysis, Line of Sight Analysis, Three-dimensional modeling and Fly-through Animation.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Provide direction to staff on whether to pursue the implementation of this technological capability.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

Upgrade current GIS computers, 3 high-end, Open GL Graphic Cards:  $1,200

Purchase of 3 licenses of Arc GIS 8.x software:  $3,400

Purchase of 3 licenses of Arc 3DAnalyst & Arc Scene software:  $7,500

Purchase of 3 licenses of Arc Spatial Analyst:  $7,500

On-going annual support fees for the software: $1,200

 

Total one-time cost to implement on GIS Office work stations:  $19,600

Total annual cost to maintain support:  $1,200
