PROCLAMATION A
PROCLAMATION TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE OUTSTANDING SERVICES OF PUBLIC
SAFETY PERSONNEL DURING THE WINTER STORM OF 2003
WHEREAS, on
WHEREAS, the disruptions in transportation services threatened the
delivery of public safety services to all of Fauquier County citizens for
three days and nights requiring additional personnel, equipment and
sheltering personnel to be on standby; and
WHEREAS, on February 16, 2003, the Director of Emergency Services for
the County of Fauquier, on the recommendation of the Fauquier County Chief
of the Department of Fire and Emergency Service, issued a Declaration of
Local Emergency which ultimately received a Presidential Emergency
Declaration for cost recovery; and
WHEREAS, Fauquier Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Department of Fire
and Emergency Services personnel provided additional 24-hour staffing; and
WHEREAS, Warrenton/Fauquier Joint Communications Center personnel
maintained elevated staffing and performance levels; and
WHEREAS, Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, and Virginia State
Police maintained traffic safety and other service levels, in spite of the
road conditions; and
WHEREAS, the Fauquier Chapter of the American Red Cross was on
standby during the event and prepared to open and staff shelters if needed;
and
WHEREAS, Virginia Department of Transportation employees and
contractors worked tirelessly to keep roads open and assisted public safety
agencies by responding to call locations to open roads and driveways for
emergency units; and
WHEREAS, Fauquier County Support Services personnel worked to clear
snow and restore County and School Services; and
WHEREAS, a joint effort by numerous agencies successfully evacuated a
group of Boy Scouts snowed in at Camp Big Rock, Markham; now, therefore, be
it
PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 21st
day of April 2003, That the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors recognizes
all Public Safety Workers’ services and dedication during this event to be
outstanding; and, be it PROCLAIMED
FURTHER, That these dedicated public safety servants are hereby commended
for their commitment to the preservation of lives and properties of the
citizens of
