A Resolution to Accept the Award of Recreational Access Grant
Funding for the Northern Sports Field Complex Description: The
Parks and Recreation Department obtained approval to submit two (2) grant
applications for funding to assist with access/egress improvements and
access road installation for the Northern and Central Sports Complexes.
The Northern Sports Field Complex grant request included $276,500
for roadways and $60,500 for bikeways per site.
The grant application further requested, if needed, an additional
$100,000 for roadways, if matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis, and an
additional $15,000 for bikeways, also if matched dollar-for-dollar. On
The
grant does not provide for right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation
needed in order to attain an acceptable entrance and roadway.
The funding source is the Virginia Department of Transportation,
Commonwealth Transportation Board. Any
roadway constructed must be entered into the State Scenic Byway System.
In March 2003, the grant was reviewed and recommended for approval by the County Finance Committee. Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: Consider
adoption of the attached resolution. Financial Impacts Analysis: Recreation
Access Funds in the amount of $337,000 with a breakdown as follows: Bikeway
State funding of $60,000, and Access Road State funding of $223,000, plus
a State match of $27,000 = $310,000 A
local match of $27,000, to be funded from the current Northern Sports
Field Complex allocation, brings total Access Road funding to $337,000. Identify Any Other Departments, Organizations or Individuals That Would be Affected by This Request: Finance
