RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR AND COUNTY ATTORNEY TO TAKE ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO HAVE A PORTION OF McRAE’S ROAD TAKEN BACK INTO THE STATE SECONDARY SYSTEM OF HIGHWAYS

WHEREAS, McRae’s Road, Virginia State Route 695 was previously in the Virginia State Secondary System of Highways; and

WHEREAS, maintenance on a portion of McRae’s Road was discontinued by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) on March 11, 1965; and

WHEREAS, after the discontinuance of maintenance the Fauquier County Planning Commission approved Pleasant Estates subdivision which uses McRae’s road, including the unmaintained portion, as its entrance way to the subdivision; and

WHEREAS, the owners of land in Pleasant Estates have asked that that the unmaintained portion of McRae’s Road from the present terminus of state maintenance to the present turnaround, a distance of approximately 0.4 miles, be taken back into the State Secondary System of Highways; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation has determined that it will cost $22,000 to bring the road back into conformance with the Virginia Department of Highways regulations of State Secondary Roads; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 8th day of May 2008, That the County Administrator and County Attorney be, and are hereby, authorized to take all actions necessary, including but not limited to the acceptance of deeds conveying right of way to the County,  to have that unmaintained portion of McRae’s Road from the present terminus of maintenance to the present turnaround, a distance of approximately 0.4 miles, taken back into the State Secondary System of Highways; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, that $22,000 be, and is hereby, appropriated from the County’s Transportation Fund to pay for all improvements necessary to bring the road back into conformance with the Virginia Department of Highways regulations for State Secondary Roads.
