PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION HONORING FANNIE BUCKLEY BALLENGER

ON THE OCCASION OF HER 101st BIRTHDAY

            WHEREAS, on May 10, 1907, Fannie Buckley Ballenger was born to Charles Stuart and Gertrude Matthew Buckley; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Ballenger attended the Legato School, a small, one-room schoolhouse from first to seventh grade; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Ballenger had one brother, Lawrence, and five sisters:  Florence, Thelma, Alma, Ella Mae, and Hilda; and

            WHEREAS, when the family home near Centreville became too small, the family moved to Edgewood, near Upperville, in 1924; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Ballenger married Earl Marshall Embrey in 1926 and had six children:  Alice Marie, Allan, Earl, Jr., Charles, Brooke, and Ruth; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Ballenger and her family lived for many years at Blue Ridge Farm; and

            WHEREAS, after the death of her husband, Mrs. Ballenger continued to live at Blue Ridge Farm until 1974; and

            WHEREAS, in 1974, Mrs. Ballenger met her second husband, Howard Ballenger and they resided in Upperville; and

            WHEREAS, following the death of her second husband, Mrs. Ballenger moved to Bealeton in 1986; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Ballenger now has 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Ballenger has met every challenge in her remarkable life with dignity and grace; and

            WHEREAS, the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors would like to honor and recognize Mrs. Fannie Buckley Ballenger for her remarkable life; now, therefore, be it

            PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 8th day of May 2008, That Mrs. Ballenger be, and is hereby, congratulated on the occasion of her 101st birthday on May 10, 2008.
