Consideration of a
resolution to enter into a twenty-five (25) year Cooperative
Agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of
Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) regarding operation and
improvement of the Lake Brittle property.
The proposed Agreement
allows Fauquier County and the Virginia Department of Game
and Inland Fisheries to cooperatively improve and operate
the Lake Brittle property. The Agreement includes all
grounds, water, and facilities within the Lake Brittle
property. Under the Agreement, Fauquier County shall be
responsible for all day-to-day maintenance and operations.
Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries shall be
responsible for dam safety compliance with State regulations
and applicable safety responsibilities and fishery
management.
A five (5) year Lake Brittle
Concession Agreement commenced on February 1, 2002, and
expired earlier this year. On December 14, 2006, the Board
adopted a resolution approving language in a proposed
twenty-five (25) year agreement. Upon review of the proposed
agreement language and subsequent discussions, VDGIF staff
requested several changes. Most are minor but one is
substantive: language commiting the VDGIF to build a Fishing
Resource Center at Lake Brittle within two (2) years has
been replaced with the VDGIF “will continue to pursue
options and funding to construct a Fishing Resource Center.”
