PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO RECOGNIZE ROBERT RIDDELL FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF FAUQUIER COUNTY

WHEREAS,     Robert Riddell joined the Marines in 1939 as a second lieutenant, just out of college, at 21 years of age; and

WHEREAS, Robert Riddell retired as a Colonel from the Marines, and was awarded a Bronze Star for his courageous actions and service to his country during World War II; and

WHEREAS, in 1961 Robert Riddell moved to Fauquier County where he met Mildred, his bride of over 40 years; and

WHEREAS, in 1966 Robert Riddell began his volunteer service to the community through the Catlett-Casanova-Midland Ruritan Club; and

            WHEREAS, Ruritan Clubs works locally with Future Farmers of America, 4-H, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts units, and other organizations serving youth; and

WHEREAS, Ruritan Clubs provide and supervise community recreational centers, sponsor Little League and other athletic programs, involve themselves in anti-litter campaigns, help the sick and needy, and perform a wide range of services to help their communities; and

            WHEREAS, Robert Riddell has devoted over 40 years of his life to furthering the mission of the Ruritan Club, which is to make America's communities better places in which to live and work, through volunteer community service; and

WHEREAS, Robert Riddell has demonstrated the highest level of fellowship, goodwill and community service; now, therefore, be it

            PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 11th day of May 2006, That Robert Riddell be, and is hereby, recognized and commended for his dedicated service to the citizens of Fauquier County.
