Topic: 

A Resolution to Petition the Northern Virginia Regional Commission for Inclusion of Fauquier County in Its Membership

Topic Description:

The Board of Supervisors recently considered the various advantages of inclusion in the membership of the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.  These include regional planning for public safety, homeland security and transportation, information-sharing, and the opportunity to participate in other regional initiatives.  Membership in the Commission may also further the County's long-standing goal of obtaining additional funding such as "cost of competing" and the Northern Virginia differential.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

 The Northern Virginia Regional Commission calculates its membership fee on the per capita population of each member locality at the rate of 38 cents.  The annual cost of membership for Fauquier County would be approximately $23,000.
