A Resolution to Authorizate Creation of a Career Ladder for Social Workers Within the Department of Social Services

Topic Description:

The Department of Social Services has experienced substantial turnover in the social work series of position classifications.  Accordingly, a request is made to create a career ladder for social workers to improve retention of trained staff. 

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Adopt the attached resolution. 

Financial Impacts Analysis:

The Department of Social Services has identified three employees who would qualify for promotion under the revision during the upcoming fiscal year.  If, as seems unlikely, the employees would qualify at the beginning of the fiscal year, the fiscal impact in increased salary and benefits would be approximately $11,000.  The impact will likely be less as these employees must complete a certification process in order to qualify. The department expects to absorb this change within the appropriated budget for FY 2003.
