information:
On
March 18, 2002 and April 15, 2002, the Board of Supervisors held
work sessions to discuss amendments to Article 8 of the zoning
ordinance for signs located in the Planned Residential
Development, Planned Development Mixed Use, and Planned Commercial
and Industrial Development districts. The April 15th
work session included discussion on the number of signs permitted
for commercial shopping centers and the addition of standards
regarding Planning Commission approval or denial of a sign design
package.
The Planning
Commission opted not to increase the number of primary
identification signs permitted for commercial shopping centers.
The Commission added language to Section 8-1613.E of the
text amendment proposal stating “at the second meeting of the
Planning Commission, the Commission may deny approval for any
design package which fails to satisfy the requirements of this
ordinance, or approve the design package and impose modification
to lighting standards, and modifications to specified color and
font type.”
The Department of Community Development
staff met with several members of the Board of Supervisors,
Planning Commission and citizens on March 14, 2002 to answer
questions arising from the proposed amendments as a prelude to the
March 18, 2002 work session.
If the Board wishes
to take action, a proposed ordinance for adoption is included as
Attachment 1.
