At the Board of Supervisors’
meeting of June 9, 2005, there will be a public hearing to
consider a special exception to allow for the development of
the Warrenton-Fauquier Airport in a manner consistent with
the Airport Master Plan.
In 1992, the Airport was
acquired by Fauquier County. In the intervening years, a
Master Plan was prepared and approved, land was acquired in
order to provide for improvements and safety, and a number
of hangars and related improvements were constructed.
The Airport Committee serves
as an Advisory Board concerning Airport operations and
improvements. The Federal Aviation Administration and the
Virginia Department of Aviation have provided significant
funding to implement capital improvements. The Airport
Enterprise fund has provided the local cash match
requirements for these grants and public-private
partnerships have been utilized to achieve other
improvements. Attached is
additional background information concerning future
Airport improvement plans.
A representative of the
engineering firm that has worked with Fauquier County since
it acquired the Airport will be present to review the Master
Plan. Staff will provide an update on the status of
improvement projects that are underway, budget development,
and future plans.
