A Resolution to Establish the Position of Assistant Commonwealth Attorney

Topic Description:

The Personnel Committee has endorsed the establishment of the Assistant Commonwealth Attorney  Position. 

Effective June 2006, the Compensation Board has approved the allocation and funding of one additional Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Fauquier County Government due to an increase case load.

The position responsibilities include preparing and prosecuting criminal charges in various courts; serving as prosecutor; preparing cases for prosecution; trying cases in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations and Circuit Courts; and preparing and maintaining files and records.

The position has a significant impact in preparing and prosecuting criminal charges.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

Effective June 2006, the General Assembly notified the Compensation Board of additional funding for an additional Assistant Commonwealth Attorney position for Fauquier County Government Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.  The hiring range for the position is $57,661.07 to $74,937.62.
