Fauquier County has
requested bids for the construction of Cell II for Municipal
Solid Waste (MSW) at the Corral Farm Landfill. The
development of this cell is consistent with the landfill
master plan. This project will create approximately 800,000
cubic yards of permitted landfill space that will provide
for MSW needs for the next six to eight years.
The use of the current MSW
landfill cell will need to be terminated within the next
twelve months. Staff is concerned that the new cell be
completed this calendar year and is mindful of the need for
good weather conditions to complete this work. Therefore, a
notice of intent to award the contract has been issued and
the contract may be executed subject to the Board’s
ratification. The contract also contains an incentive
provision that will provide a payment of $1,000 a day, to a
maximum of $30,000, if the work is completed during days 61
through 90 from the date of notice to proceed.
One bid was submitted in the
amount of $1,914,520. The bid was just below the engineer’s
project estimate and is submitted by an experienced
contractor. Engineering and inspection fees in the amount
of $217,000 are also included in the landfill budget for the
project.
