Signs
posted in the right-of-ways violate State and County law.
At its work
session in May 2005, the Board of Supervisors directed the
Zoning Office to put together a program to eliminate illegal
sign posting in the right-of-ways. The Virginia Department
of Transportation, by statue, is authorized to enter into
agreements with localities for the abatement of illegal
signs in the right-of-way. Under such an agreement, county
officers act as agents of VDOT in sign removals. The County
Attorney recommended entering into such an agreement.
Upon
execution of the agreement, a letter will be sent to all
realtors reminding them that posting in the right-of-way is
illegal. Approximately one week thereafter, sign removal
will begin. |
