Department TOPIC:
Voting Precincts
Locations and ADA Compliance Issues TOPIC
DESCRIPTION: Recently, the
County staff, with valuable assistance from Tom Reese, completed a review
of the eighteen (18) voting precincts to determine if there were actions
that could be taken to remove barriers and improve accessibility.
Currently, the eighteen (18) locations are comprised of: five (5)
buildings owned by civic associations, five (5) churches, four (4) public
schools, one (1) county office building, one (1) public utility office,
one (1) community center, and the Armory. The results of the
survey were transmitted to the Electoral Board and the Electoral Board has
prepared the attached report recommending changes in four (4) locations.
Improvements would be planned to remove barriers at other
locations. In instances where
non-public facilities are utilized, a lease would be developed to
formalize the use of the space for elections and to provide a structure
for making improvements on private property. The County Attorney
and the Assistant County Administrator have previously met with the
Electoral Board to discuss these matters. REQUESTED
ACTION: Consider
the attached report of
the Electoral Board. FINANCIAL
IMPACTS ANALYSIS: The
General Services department believes that, if the use of four additional
schools is approved, the remaining accessibility improvements can be
implemented within the general maintenance allotment available to the
department. IDENTIFY
