Topic:

Review the Farmland Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) Program and the Agricultural Advisory Committee’s Rankings of Offered Farms

Topic Description:

The review will cover the PDR farm rankings, cost of purchases, and proposed funding mechanisms.  

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors  

Hold a work session to discuss authorization for the County to purchase seventy-nine (79) development rights from five (5) Fauquier farms in order to preserve 1,625 acres.  

Financial Impact Analysis

It is anticipated that Fauquier County will receive $1,500,000 from Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) specifically for the PDR program on eligible properties within five miles proximate to the ODEC peaking power plant.  Roll back taxes and penalties have also been set aside to fund the PDR program.  See attached cash flow projection.
