Topic: 

A Resolution that Fauquier County be Declared an Agricultural Disaster Area by the Governor of Virginia

Topic Description:

Extremely excessive rainfall in May and June of 2003 has caused significant damage to agricultural crops in Fauquier County. The Fauquier County Food and Agriculture Committee has estimated that at least 22,500 acres of cropland have been adversely affected, with an estimated loss of $2.6 million to Fauquier County farmers.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

There are no direct financial impacts to Fauquier County Government as a result of this resolution. If approved by the Governor's office, this request will enable Fauquier County farmers to have access to Federal Agricultural Disaster relief, when made available.
