A Resolution to Award a Contract to Provide Planning, Architectural and Engineering Services for the Fire Training Center and Sheriff’s Firing Range

Topic Description:

The adopted Capital Budget for FY 2008 provides funding for the planning and development of a Fire Training Center and Outdoor Firing Range to be located adjacent to the Coral Farms Landfill.  The facility will serve as a regional Fire Training Center in association with Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties.  The Board has previously authorized the submission of a grant application to the Virginia Department of Fire Programs for a burn building to be located there.

The facility also includes a firing range to meet the training, certification and safety requirements of the Sheriff’s Office.  The range will eventually provide 12 firing lanes with expansion allowed for future needs.

A scope of work has been developed with Teng and Associates that includes assistance in preparing an application for a Special Exception Permit, construction documents, requirements for an approved site plan, bidding and construction phase services.  It is anticipated that construction will be initiated in the Fall of 2008.
