PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO HONOR MAJOR OLAF H. SHIBUSAWA

FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES ARMY AND THE

CITIZENS OF FAUQUIER COUNTY

            WHEREAS, Major Olaf H. Shibusawa spent over fifteen months away from his family, serving in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Major Shibusawa led over 240 combat missions with Special Forces Operations in the Sunni Triangle (the most dangerous area in Operation Iraqi Freedom), displaying exceptional leadership and bravery on behalf of his comrades and his Country; and

WHEREAS, Major Shibusawa was cited for and awarded the Bronze Star Medal by the United States Army for exceptionally meritorious actions during a hostile conflict ; and

WHEREAS, while not engaged in combat missions in Iraq, Major Shibusawa initiated and encouraged an e-mail and cultural exchange program between Iraqi children and two classes at Ritchie Elementary School, which greatly enhanced the children’s understanding and appreciation of other cultures and won over the hearts and minds of the Iraqi peoples; and

WHEREAS, the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors wishes to acknowledge and honor the bravery, leadership, dedication and innovation of Major Shibusawa; now, therefore, be it

            PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 10th day of August 2006, That the Board of Supervisors, on behalf of all citizens of Fauquier County, extends its deepest gratitude and thanks to Major Shibusawa and his entire family for their many contributions to, and sacrifices on behalf of, the citizens of the United States and Fauquier County.
